Why choose BioPod?

Easy, reliable wastewater treatment that works naturally

BioPod cleans your wastewater using natural processes — no smells, no fuss. It’s trusted all over New Zealand for homes, communities, and businesses that want a simple, effective solution.

This award-winning system is the core of many of our wastewater solutions and works great for family homes, Papakainga communities, eco-resorts, and commercial sites all over New Zealand.

BioPod septic tanks are tested and approved by OSET and trusted by wastewater experts across the country.

Using a clever combination of worms (vermifiltration) and extra aeration, BioPod treats wastewater efficiently and without any bad smells, meeting New Zealand’s strict council standards.

Why choose BioPod?

Tired of noisy, smelly, power-hungry septic systems? The BioPod is a smarter, cleaner, and quieter way to manage your household wastewater.

Here’s why homeowners love it:

  • Nature does the hard work – The BioPod is an “ecosystem in a tank.” Billions of natural organisms treat your wastewater, just like in nature — but faster and cleaner.

  • Save up to 90% on energy costs – No big, noisy mechanical aerators running 24/7. The BioPod uses a fraction of the power, saving you money every month.

  • Completely silent – No constant hum or buzz. Just peace and quiet.

  • No smells. Ever. – The aerobic process keeps your system fresh and odour-free (no septic stink here).

  • Handles food waste too – Go ahead and use a garbage grinder — the BioPod can take it!

  • Clean, safe water for your garden – Treated water is used to irrigate your lawns and gardens through a smart, reliable irrigation system.

  • Better for the planet – The BioPod produces almost no methane (which is 21x worse than CO₂). It’s a big win for your carbon footprint.

  • Built right here in New Zealand – 100% NZ-made and council approved, so you know it’s designed for local conditions.

  • Compact and easy to install – Lightweight, smaller footprint, and less digging — perfect for tricky sites or established gardens.

How BioPod works

The BioPod is built to last. It’s strong, simple, and designed to make wastewater treatment easy — without all the mechanical parts that usually cause problems. That means lower running costs, fewer things to break, and cleaner water at the end of the process.

There’s no need to separate black water and grey water — it works with your home’s normal plumbing. Everything flows into a tough, high-quality tank made right here to meet NZ standards.

Inside the BioPod, layers of natural filter material create a perfect home for billions of tiny organisms. These organisms do what they do best — breaking down and cleaning your wastewater as it moves through the system. It’s just like how soil naturally filters water in the environment.

Because it’s an aerobic process, the system stays fresh and healthy on its own — no sludge build-up, no smell, and no need for complicated maintenance. A small, quiet air pump gently moves air through the system to keep everything working smoothly.

At the end of the process, a fine filter captures any last bits before the clean, treated water is safely pumped out to your garden or irrigation system — returning it to the natural water cycle.

The result? A tough, low-maintenance wastewater system that quietly takes care of itself and gives you peace of mind for years to come.

Low power excellence

The BioPod system takes a clever, natural approach to treating your household wastewater.

It combines vermiculture (worms and other natural organisms) with gentle aeration — using just a small, quiet air pump — to keep everything healthy and active inside the system.

These organisms feed on what goes down your drains — things like sewage, toilet paper, and food waste — breaking it down completely naturally. The result is clean, safe water that meets strict council standards for secondary treatment, without relying on heavy machinery or harsh chemicals.

Because the system is powered by nature, it uses very little electricity. The small air pump uses just a fraction of the energy that other systems need, helping you save on power while doing right by the environment.

We can install BioPod just about anywhere

BioPod minimises disruption to your landscape with its lightweight compact and easy-install system. Made from 100% recycled material, this single-tank, single-pipe system is designed for seamless integration anywhere, from remote locations to challenging terrain, with minimal disruption to your landscape.

With a simple single-pipe design, BioPod connects seamlessly to plumbing with no need to separate black and grey water before it enters the system.

Super low maintenance

BioPod is a hands-off system that operates without the need for suck-outs. Once installed, you can sit back and relax with a system that demands little attention or frequent servicing yet never compromises on performance. Easy.

Designed for your backyard

The BioPod's blower only consumes 0.12 kWhours per day (approximately 3 cents per day) which is extremely low compared to other conventional aerated wastewater systems, which typically consume 10 to 20 times this. In addition to this, the air pump is whisper quiet.

We have field and factory tested installed BioPod and recorded maximum noise of less than 40dB from a distance of just 1m. By comparison, the blowers used on aerated wastewater systems can be very noisy and can operate 24 hours a day.

The BioPod is extremely reliable but has an audible and visual alarm installed to let you know of any irregularities within the system.
