Grey Water Treatment

Need a greywater treatment system?

Let us recommend one.

Did you know that approximately 2/3s of typical household waste is greywater? That’s the water from your laundry, showers, baths, and basins.

In most situations the grey water is treated and discharged by the onsite wastewater treatment system, however there are times when the greywater requires its own treatment system.

At WaterFlow we know our wastewater, so whether you need a basic filter and discharge or a full treatment prior to discharge, we can recommend the best option for your specific requirements.

Why You Need to Deal with Greywater Correctly Greywater is fairly ‘clean’ and easy to process when it is fresh. If grey water is left to sit, it quickly putrefies becoming both toxic and smelly. Greywater systems have various applications:
  • Overloaded or undersized septic tanks: greatly improve the performance of your septic tank by removing the greywater.
  • Already have a composting toilet in a cabin or bach? We can help by installing a system to treat and discharge the greywater.
  • Garden irrigation: running low on water during the summer but still need to water the garden? Simply filter your greywater and keep the garden flourishing.

Considering a greywater treatment system?

We’ll help you choose the right option

Before you dive in, there are few important things to consider:

Greywater Recycling Want to reuse greywater throughout your house?

It is possible to treat greywater and put it back through your toilets, but it is costly.

Your toilet is black water and is only a portion of the 1/3 of your wastewater that isn’t greywater, therefore water savings will be much less than you thought.

To reuse grey water in this way, it must be disinfected properly; a disinfection plant is costly and requires good maintenance to ensure effective operation.

We have come up with an alternative that will meet your requirements and budget.

Simply install an extra water tank (sizes available from 5,000 – 30,000L) and save more water from your roof.

Why reuse dirty water when we are watching clean water rush past every time it rains?

Not only is it cheaper, but you will also require no treatment before putting it through toilets, gardens, car washing etc. With a basic filter to make it drinkable, this water can also be used to back up your whole house. With water restrictions becoming common through the summer, you can be one step ahead!

Garden Irrigation Greywater can be a great way to keep your garden happy during the summer months.

Grey water cannot be stored as even treated greywater can putrefy in a matter of days. It is important to have an alternative disposal for excess greywater to ensure it isn’t left sitting around too long.

Kitchen Water Thought water from the kitchen sink was greywater?

The presence of grease and grime in your kitchen waste means that the water is actually classed as black water and needs additional treatment before discharge.

We offer a small system that uses media filtration, allowing for the filtration of both kitchen wastewater and greywater. You need to make sure fats and greases are minimised from entering the drains in the kitchen or put the kitchen waste through a small grease trap before adding it to the greywater flow.
