Our 4,500-litre concrete septic tank is a robust and durable solution for domestic wastewater treatment, suitable for residential and rural applications. This tank is designed to last for decades, providing reliable performance.
Septic tanks are the backbone of traditional onsite treatment systems. In fact, up to 80% of all onsite treatment systems still rely on septic tanks for primary treatment. Before the emergence of modern advanced treatment systems, nearly all properties with onsite disposal depended on septic tanks as the standard method of wastewater management.
The septic tank is a passive settling system. Wastewater from the household enters the tank and is separated into three layers:
-
Sludge (solid waste) sinks to the bottom.
-
Scum (oils and grease) floats to the top.
-
Clarified water remains in the middle and is discharged from the tank.
The clarified water is then distributed to soakage beds or trenches, where it percolates into the soil, providing natural filtration. The tank must be periodically pumped to remove accumulated sludge and scum, ensuring continued performance and environmental protection.
